Dominate Building are an award-winning custom home builder based in Melbourne’s East. We are a second generation, family-owned business with over 65 years’ cumulative experience in the building industry. Based in Blackburn, Dominate Building specialise in building custom homes and dual occupancy townhouses, having completed projects from Ivanhoe to Glen Waverley.

Our story started when Ivan Domajnko, a builder and carpenter, immigrated with his wife Ivanka from Yugoslavia in 1973. Ivan now 76, continues to work within the business which is now run by his son Michael. The name Dominate Building represents the Domajnko family. Our logo pays homage to our Slovenian roots and the strong foundations we have built.

In 2017, after working with his father Ivan for 10 years, head builder and current director, Michael started Dominate Building. Michael now has over 15 years’ experience in Residential Project Management. Prior to becoming a developer and Master Builder, Michael worked as an estimator with some of Melbourne’s most reputable commercial builders.

Michael is passionate about giving back to the community, and at Dominate Building we want to leave a legacy by providing families within our community with a home of their dreams and planting trees for them that we may never see grow. We also donate a percentage of our annual proceeds to the Leukemia foundation every year in honour of my Michael’s sister Sabine.

Michael is passionate about using modern technology to simplify the building process for clients and to advocate for increased efficiency across the residential building industry. He has adapted state-of-arc construction, tried and tested software including Costx, Buildxact and buildertrend within the business to guarantee best practice estimating and project management across all jobs. Michael uses Buildertend to manage projects, providing daily updates on site and regular communication within the client portal. He has also recently implemented Built Grid software within the business, another software developed within Australia used to easily manage all trades and subcontractors. All Dominate Building systems are designed to ensure client satisfaction.

Michael is conscious about progressing his development as a builder and business owner and strives to develop other builders and trades in his network via regular forums, communication and social media updates. He is not shy about sharing his knowledge with his audience and is open to being challenged if it means benefiting his business and industry.
